I was determined to write 300 words last night, and I did it! Actually, by the time I had a place to stop, I had written 329! Tonight, I have to do the same, if not more! I'm working on a short story for a very specific contest. The entry is due on Sept. 15 and it has to be composed entirely of dialog but without any "he said" or "she said."
At first I thought that would be incredibly difficult, but then the book I was working my way through, gave me an assignment to use only dialog. It only had to be a short writing--about 10 minutes. I ended up with about 3 pages, written long-hand! At that point, I decided it might not be as difficult as I thought, so I'm determined to do it!
Now, I will share a poem that I wrote for my daughter a little while ago. She we took her to New York to go to college this past weekend. I miss her, but I'm very proud of her! Since I have already given her a copy of this poem, I guess I can share it here, now.
Seana
This is a letter to my daughter, Seana
Who wants to be a missionary
And take the gift of our language
To countries she has never seen
And to people who speak
Languages she has never spoken.
My heart bursts with pride
When I envision her there
Singing, performing skits,
And loving people to Christ.
You may not be able to watch
Dr. Who there, but you may
Be someone’s Dr. Who, appearing
At just the moment they need
You most. Perhaps in a Tardis
Disguised as a bicycle or a car.
You may never be a hero
To everyone, but let it be enough
To be a hero to someone!
I write this poem to my beautiful,
Creative, loving daughter,
Seana, who is going off to college
And then to the world!
