Shakespeare’s Juliet asked, “What’s in a name?” Well, when you are writing, names are extremely important. Think about it. Would you believe an evil character named Angel? What about a 90 year old lady in Victorian England named Summer?
Conversely, when you create names they can lead to a story about that character. Don’t be afraid to bounce your ideas about the character off a friend. They may have great ideas. For instance, tell them you thought of a great name for a character and see what they think this character is like just from the name. You can make a game of it, going back and forth telling this person’s story or back story. The great thing is, there is no right or wrong to this game! You can change the person’s story at any time or in any way you want. Being a writer is great!
